Jaguar tops German quality survey
You know when automotive journalists write articles for fun listing headlines you never thought you'd see on the printed page? Headlines like "Porsche builds SUV" or "Volkswagen to offer uber luxury car" come time mind... oh, wait... yeah, bad examples. No joke here, however - this post's headline is true. Jag has secured the top spot in a reader poll done by Germany's Auto Zeitung magazine that rated 33 brands in product quality, reliability and service. The British cat jumped up four spots from last year, in fact.
This could be a case of "the grass is always greener," as the 30,000 Germans polled picked British-built Jaguar over their own Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, surprisingly enough. It's is a small bright spot for Ford as it sifts through debt and layoffs this week, as well as a bright spot for Jaguar, whose days could be numbered as a member of Ford's Premier Automotive Group, according to some industry experts.

how much did Ford pay for all this 8:09PM (9/18/2006)
Probably paid some serious money to rig those polls. May be a few trips to brazilian prostitutes and nights on a cruise to hawaii too.
There is also reason to be deeply suspicious of this poll since Jaguar has reported some serious problems with X-type and fuel tank problems with XJ.
Jaguar's aluminum body is constructed using machines and processes imported from dutch-german company polynorm stadco and the transmission is from ZF.
With recent troubles and ensuing demise it is possible that Ford and the german pollsters made some internal arrangement to save each others business and reputation.

i want to know what types of people they polled, my guess is that they were all either incredibly wasted or are on the payroll at ford.

If there's as many Germans with disdain for their country's automotive brands as Americans for theirs you might have your reason why.

According to the article
"Auto Zeitung's readers are said to have been particularly impressed by the expertise of staff at Jaguar's dealerships in Germany, as well as the ease of arranging test drives and the detailed introduction they received to their cars when they took delivery."
The problem is here in the US all the dealership tech have no clue and they are glad to get rid of you as soon as you sign the check.
Perhaps Ford could try the same here. Note, these survey says nothing about the car falling apart after leaving the dealership

Good for Jaguar. Their products are certainly classier than most of the German marques' current offerings.

As the owner of a 2004 XJ8 with nearly 40,000 miles, I can concur completely with the survey. Our car has been nearly bulletproof and shows no signs of aging what so ever. The only problem so far being a blown AC sensor. In addition, our dealer's service department, has been top notch too. Recent JD Power surveys have also had Jag rated highly over the past couple of years. I know people bitch and moan about the billions Ford has dumped into Jag, but it was well spent in quality improvement.

As someone who has worked at a Ford Lincoln Mercury BMW dealership, I can say that yeah BMWs are nice, luxurious cars, but you couldn't pay me to drive one once they hit 60-70k miles. They tend to be in the shop quite a bit and everytime it costs a minimum $1,000. A friend of a friend of mine got rid of his X5 with 73k miles on it because the thing was getting too expensive to maintain. They are absolutely great cars to drive and the fun factor is a 10, but be prepared to spend a lot of money if you plan on keeping it after 50k+ miles.

This is essentially an opinion survey. And when responses are highly subjective, it's crucial to have a random sample. Which this study likely did not.
I don't foresee having enough Jags in my own study to say anything about their reliability anytime soon for a simple reason: they sell so few of them.

ROFL
A) constantly rising rankings for Jaguar in deutch automagazine, JDPower etc. (which BTW means an opinion of thousands of Jaguar owners and customers)
vs.
B) still the same horde of bashing MFs at Autoblog (who never owned a single Jag)
hard to choose

#1. We have much better things than prostitutes around here, in example, reasonable people, something that you aren't.
If the poll were about Toyota nobody would care, even knowing about their recalls and so. But not, is about Ford, so there's always someone prepared to throw millions of BS like "Ford paid for this" "they all are on Ford's payrolle" "blah blah blah, i'm a loser and all i know is complain".

I think it says more about the low quality of German cars than the high quality of Jag.

#5 - You obviously haven't purchased a Jaguar in a very long time, if ever. They bring customer service to a new level with amount of detail and care they put into the "handover". They may not sell a lot of cars, but when they do, it's like you were royalty.
